Di negeri kita Sultan Sulaiman Badrul Alamsyah dikenal sebagai Sultan Kerajaan Melayu Riau yang pertama. Naik tahta pada tahun 1722 dengan wilayah kekuasaan mencakup Johor, Riau, Pahang, dan Lingga. Sedangkan di pihak negeri jiran Beliau adalah Sultan Johor ke-13. Sejarah memang tergantung kepada siapa yang menulis dan dia berdiri dimana. Museum di Jalan Ketapang dulunya adalah SD 01. Lebih dahulu lagi adalah bangunan Hollandsch-Inlandsche School HIS atau Sekolah Bumiputera Belanda. Setakat ini seluruh koleksi museum dikategorikan kedalam enam galeri yaitu Tanjungpinang Kota Bermula, Khazanah Arsip Photo Sejarah, Ragam Keramik, Galeri Malaka, Keragaman Budaya, Alam Perkawinan Melayu. BREST VAN KEMPEN Foto seorang pria menatap sendu di Galeri Arsip aku baca namanya Carel Pieter Brest van Kempen. Brest van Kempen..Brest van Kempen...nama ini jelas ring a bell tapi siapa gerangan orang ini. Tidak pernah aku melihat wajahnya meski tidak tampaknya asing. Label Resident Resident Riouw di Tanjungpinang, 1854-1855 tidak banyak membantu. Terungkap beberapa waku kemudian jika Brest van Kempen 1815-1865 adalah tokoh yang disebut dalam Max Havelaar karya Multatuli sebagai Slijmering. Selama berkarier di Hindia Belanda Brest van Kempen pernah menduduki jabatan residen Riouw 1854, Bantam Banten, 1855, dan Djokjakarta 1857. Semasa menjabat asisten Banten, dia adalah atasan asisten residen Lebak bernama Douwes Dekker Multatuli. LAMBANG KOTA Lambang kota di Jalan Merdeka terlihat gambar sehelai sirih dan keris di tengah. Bentuknya menyerupai cogan kerajaan yang disebut Sirih Besar. Cogan adalah salah satu regalia yang digunakan untuk penabalan sultan. Dengan kata lain simbol legitimasi sultan yang berkuasa atas Johor, Riau, Lingga, dan Pahang. Larik pertama sampiran pantun dikutip dari Senarai Upacara Adat Perkawinan Melayu Riau Unri Press, 2000 menyiratkan pentingnya peranan cogan. Raja berjalan didahului cogan / Cogan berasal dari Kelantan / Sirih pembuka sudah dimakan / Apa gerangan hajat kedatangan Cogan asli terbuat dari emas dan perak, bertahtakan batu rubin berwarna merah darah. Pada 13 Oktober 1822 Gubernur Belanda merampas cogan dari Engku Putri Raja Hamidah di Penyengat. Sekarang disimpan di Museum Nasional, Jakarta. Replika cogan dipamerkan di Museum Sulaiman Badrul Alamsyah lengkap dengan inskripsi dalam bahasa Melayu dengan aksara Arab-Melayu. Berbunyi, Hu Hu Bismaillah al-rahman al-rahim bahwa inilah raja yang keturunan dari Bukit Siguntang asalnya daripada Baginda Sri Sultan Iskandar Zulkarnain, ialah Raja yang adil lagi berdaulat yang mempunyai tahta kerajaan serta kebesaran dan kemuliaan kepada segala negeri yang di dalam daerah tanah Melayu dengan kurnia Tuhan Rabbu’ arsil’azim atasnya... GEDUNG DAERAH Gedung Daerah berseberangan dengan pantai dibangun pada tahun 1822 sebagai kediaman resmi Residen Riouw. Residen yang pernah menempati gedung ini diantaranya Elisa Netscher 1861-1870, seorang scholar Melayu dan sahabat Raja Ali Haji. Sebelum menjabat sebagai residen, Netscher pernah mengunjungi Riau pada tahun 1849, 1856, 1857. Pertemuan dengan Raja Ali Haji mengantar Netscher menerjemahkan Gurindam Dua Belas kedalam bahasa Belanda. Terbit di Tijdschrift voor Indische Taal-, Land- en Volkenkunde Jurmal Linguistik, Antropologi, dan Sejarah Hindia Belanda dengan judul De Twaalf Spreukgedichten. Een Maleisch gedicht door Radja Ali Hadji van Riouw, uitgegeven en van de vertaling en aanteekeningen voorzien Gurindam Dua Belas Sajak Melayu oleh Raja Ali Haji dari Riau, diterbitkan dan dilengkapi terjemahan serta catatan. Jurnal dikelola oleh Bataviaasch Genootschap selengkapnya Bataviaasch Genootschap van Kunsten en Wetenschappen; dengan tambahan 'Koninklijk' Royal di depan sejak 1910 sehingga disebut juga Tijdschrift van het Bataviaasch Genootschap TBG artinya jurnal Perhimpunan Batavia. Mengingat ketenarannya maka tentu saja aku mengira akan menemukan Gurindam Dua Belas karya Raja Ali Haji diangkat dengan penuh kemegahan di museum. Atau aku yang kurang teliti mencari. MONUMEN RAJA HAJI FISABILILLAH Sekilas terlihat sama tapi Raja Ali Haji 1808-1873 pengarang Gurindam Dua Belas adalah orang yang berbeda dengan Raja Haji Fisabilillah 1725-1784. Patung dada di bawah pohon ketapang halaman museum adalah Raja Haji Fisabillah. Tadinya aku mengira patung dada Sultan Sulaiman Badrul Alamsyah 1722-1760 mengingat nama museum. Monumen Raja Haji Fisabilillah atau selengkapnya Monumen Perjuangan Pahlawan Nasional Raja Haji Fisabillah terletak tak jauh dari Melayu Square. Beberapa pujasera dapat dijumpai di Tanjungpinang. Kota ini memang cukup mengasyikkan untuk wisata kuliner. Setidaknya coba deh lontong goreng fried carrot cake yang pernah diperkenalkan William Wongso. Penduduk lokal menyebutnya chai-tao-kwey, aslinya adalah menu dimsum. Sedangkan untuk kudapan jajal donat senggarang yang terbuat dari keladi. Enak tenan rek! Langsung aku lahap tiga sekaligus. Pokoknya donat paling enak yang pernah kumakan selama ini. Pengalamanku saat makan di kopitiam padahal lagi pengen banget teh panas, manis, kental a la Pak Ageng juragannya Mister Rigen. Mantap aku pesan teh obeng. Busyet, ternyata es teh D PULAU PENYENGAT DI KEJAUHAN Masjid Raya Sultan Riau bewarna kuning gading berada di Pulau Penyengat negeri kelahiran sekaligus tempat dimakamkannya Raja Ali Haji 1808-1873. Di sinilah Raja Ali Haji menggoreskan Gurindam Dua Belas pada tahun 1263 Hijriah, Selasa, tanggal 23 Rajab 6 Juli 1847 Masehi. Karya yang mengukuhkan Tanjungpinang sebagai Kota Gurindam Negeri Pantun. Membaca Gurindam Dua Belas sekali lagi, dua larik kembali menarik perhatianku. Barang siapa mengenal diri / Maka telah mengenal akan Tuhan yang bahri. Tiga makna 'bahari' menurut KBBI adalah dahulu kala, bertuah; indah, elok sekali; mengenai laut. Aku memilih konteks 'Tuhan yang indah' karena percaya bahwa ketika manusia mengenal keelokan dirinya maka dia akan dapat merasakan keindahan Khaliknya. Namun bagaimana manusia dapat menjadikan dirinya indah. Ah, bukankah manusia sudah dicipta indah. Kita hanya perlu menjaga agar keindahan itu jangan terluka oleh cela. Jika bertanya tentang cara agar keindahan manusia dapat terjaga maka Raja Ali Haji sudah memberi kita jawab satu setengah abad silam. Apabila terpelihara mata / Sedikitlah cita-cita Apabila terpelihara kuping / Khabar yang jahat tiadalah damping Apabila terpelihara lidah / Niscaya dapat daripadanya faedah... Museum Sultan Sulaiman Badrul Alamsyah memang layak dikunjungi terlepas dari satu-dua kerancuan maupun typo pada label museum seperti 'Menjelang berdirinya Kerajaan Riau 1772...' Tapi justru darinya timbul pertanyaan tentang siapakah Riau sebelum berdirinya Kerajaan Melayu pertama pada tahun 1722. Semoga suatu ketika kita juga akan menemukan kisahnya di museum karena sejarah kepulauan ini masih panjang di belakang. Canadian soldiers were training as we walked through since it’s an active military base. Our guide Charles was very good - funny and informative. There were some interesting exhibits although you don’t get to spend too much time at them because you must stay with the group and the tour is only about an hour. Still, an interesting activity. I’m an office worker and my husband is a forklift driver, so we are not art world people, really, but we really enjoyed ourselves here and could probably spend even more time here if they weren’t about to close. The exhibits were interesting and thought provoking, and we didn’t feel too odd being obvious outsiders in the gallery. There’s a sculpture by Michel Goulet that is still running around my thoughts weeks after seeing it. This was so much more interesting than reading the material and much more informative. For the other sections, we read the material and looked at the items on display. Not all of it is available in English which is a bit frustrating. We were given cards with English for one room. I don't find reading as satisfying or informative as an oral recounting so I would have prefered being "guided" through the entire museum. The guide checked on us partway through to see if we had any questions which was helpful. I am glad that we went and we did learn a lot.
